What Do We Offer Adults with Learning Disabilities?

  • Supported living opportunities
  • Workshops and day placement activities
  • To be a part of a thriving community

Botton Location

Botton Village and its farms nestle in Danby Dale in the beautiful North York Moors National Park. It’s not far from the towns of Middlesbrough in one direction and Whitby, Scarborough and the Yorkshire coast in the other.

Founded in 1955 Botton Village was the first Camphill centre to offer supported living opportunities to adults with learning disabilities and other special needs.

Botton Village is a place where people develop skills, it’s a thriving community in a stunning location with its own Village Hall, the Joan of Arc Hall, which provides a venue for performances and gatherings. There is also a Village Store and a cafe.

We offer workshops and day opportunities which provide the opportunity not only for people to contribute to their community but also gain experience and develop friendships.

Supported Living

We primarily support adults with a learning disability, as well as providing support for people with autism. We currently support 60 people in our supported living services.

We have 48 properties in total at Botton Village which include a mix of shared supported living households.

19 properties are currently occupied by people supported by the Trust in shared supported households and properties for independent living.

Workshops and Activities

We offer workshops and day opportunities which provide the opportunity not only for people to contribute to their community but also gain experience and develop friendships.

Our day opportunities and activities are open to the people we support and to the wider community. Find out more here. If you’re interested in attending one of our day opportunities or activities, please contact us

51 people currently attend our day opportunities which includes those living in the community and external attendees.

Opportunities include:

  • Woodland studio.
  • Creative studio.
  • Social farm.
  • Inner Garden.
  • The Village Store.
  • Coffee Bar.
  • Creamery. (Award winning cheese!)

We also encourage and empower the people we support to take up new hobbies and embrace their passions. One of our residents, Jonathon Milnes, started his own internet radio station, Radio Botton, which was always a dream of his. Make sure to tune in!

Supported Opportunities on the Farm and Gardens

Camphill Village Trust is a charity with its roots in horticulture and agriculture. We support adults to work in our farms and gardens across many of our communities.

We support people on our land-based enterprises through an initiative called Social Farming. Social Farming is recognised worldwide. The concept is very simple: to combine agricultural and horticultural production with health and social services provided to people with different types of disabilities.

Social farming and gardening are the structured support of people with a defined need in a nature-based setting.

We have up to 12 people a day attending the farm and garden taking part in activities and tasks, such as:

  • Feeding the animals.
  • Cleaning pens.
  • Caring for animals and the land.
  • Maintenance work.
  • Gardening.
